Chocolate-Chunk-Cookie-Dough-FundraiserCookie Dough Fundraiser

Thank you to all of you who have been asking friends, family, co-workers, and neighbours to purchase cookie dough for our Spring fundraiser. With our growing school populations we need to purchase items for our coding club, PE department, and we need to replace and purchase technology. All fundraising efforts are greatly appreciated.

This is the final week of fundraising.  All forms are due to the office on Thursday, April 12th.

Please be sure to fill out the forms completely and correctly. All order forms and money must be turned in no later than April 12th. The delivery will be in early May.  We will have the exact pick up date by early next week.  Cheques should be payable to Pacific Heights Elementary. Please do not add any taxes to the prices as taxes are already included.

We have also added special prizes for your hard work:

  • When you sell 5 boxes of cookies you will be entered into the draw for a $10 Menchies gift card. There will be 10 draws. Earn an extra entree for every 5 cards sold. So the more you sell the more chances you have to win.

talentTalent Show

Students selected to perform at this years Talent Show are busy preparing.  The Talent Show will be longer this year than in years past.  We will have a dress rehearsal for the show on Tuesday, April 17th at 12:45 pm.  The primary students (grades kindergarten – grade 3) will be the audience.  This allows the primary students to have the needed breaks for stretching without worrying about disrupting an adult audience.   The Talent Show on Thursday April 19th at 12:45 pm (new time to accommodate the number of performances) will have our intermediate students and parents as a an audience (no primary classes).

thanksvolunteers3[1]Parent Appreciation Tea

You are invited to Parent Appreciation Tea that is being held in the gymnasium immediately after the Talent Show ends (approximately 2 pm).  We would like to say a big “Thank You” for everything you have done this year (volunteering on field trips and in the classroom, helping fundraise,  volunteering your time for school events, and the list goes on).  Please try to attend and enjoy some cake and tea.

UnknownTrack and Field Season

Track and Field will begin at Pacific Heights this month and is open to all students in grades 3 to 7. Students interesting in joining the track and field team must review the practice schedule with their parents/guardians. If your child would like to be participate, please have your child ask for a permission slip from the school office.

Practices will supervised by Pacific Heights teachers, and will be held on school grounds either before school, during the lunch break, or after school. All practices will commence the week of April 9, 2018. Please see the schedule below for when practices will be held for each event. Students are encouraged to participate in all events, but may choose to only participate in the events they are most interested in.

There will be two mini meets on May 3 and May 22 starting at 1:30 pm at the South Surrey Athletic Park. These two meets are open to all track and field participants, provided they are attending practices regularly, and demonstrating good sportsmanship and respect for coaches and teammates. Permission slips and driver forms will be sent out two weeks prior to each meet, but please mark these dates on your calendar.

Another date to be aware of is May 31, when our school will compete at the District Track Meet at Bear Creek Park. For this meet, students will be selected by coaches to attend to represent our school for each of the events. Selection will be based on performance, attendance at practices, sportsmanship, and behavior.

Dogs on School Property

We appreciate that dogs are important and loved members of some of our families. We understand many of our families walk to school and this is a good time to take advantage of the morning or afternoon walk to school to exercise their dogs.  However, the school district policy is that dogs are not allowed on school property (unless they are therapy dogs).   Also, please do not tie your dog, unattended, to fences or other objects as you enter school property.  We have young students who are afraid of dogs and therefore afraid to walk past an unattended dog that a is tied to a fence or post.

imagesGaGa Ball

You may have noticed the orange fencing that has gone up by our intermediate playground where the SpaceNet is.  This is the initial prep work for our GaGa Ball court.  Many of you have asked, what is GaGa Ball? GaGa (or Gaga) Ball gets its name from the Israeli word for “hit” – ga – and originated in Israel. Therefore, GaGa Ball means “Hit, Hit Ball.” A fun and active game, GaGa is played with a ball and any number of players in an enclosed space. The object of the game is for players to use their hands to hit the other players with the ball, while avoiding being hit themselves. Players are eliminated if they are hit by the ball.

How to Play GaGa Ball

  1. The game begins when a chosen player holds the ball and yells, “Ga!”  The other players response with “Ga!” to indicate they are ready.  Then the ball is thrown against the side of the playing area or pin the air.  When the ball bounces once, it is considered “live” and play begins
  2. Players hit the ball at the other players while using their hands to block. If a player is hit, or just touched by the ball, they are out.
  3. If a player “double hits” the ball, they are out. The ball may be hit twice by the same player if it bounces off the ball between the two hits. Just touching the ball counts as a hit.
  4. Players removed from the game stand still on the sides or in the corners of the play area. They are treated as walls when balls bounce off them during play.
  5. Continue removing eliminated players, until only two players remain. These two players have a showdown to see who wins the game. Holding the ball is still not allowed, although the final two players may touch the ball three times in a row.
