We are officially up and rolling at Pacific Heights! Students are in their permanent classes and the learning has begun. Here are some moments from this week:
I found Ajmer working on estimating a cup full of Cheerios. He said the best part of this activity was using a calculator and of course, eating the Cheerios when he was done!
Mrs. Ecclestone, otherwise known as Mrs. Arts and Crafts, volunteers her time to help our youngest students create works of art! With her are Hailey and Christopher. They are creating Chick a Boom Boom trees. That is quite the tree trunk Christopher!
Recycle crew hard at work! Every week, Mrs. Holmes and Mrs. de Leeuw head up a team of school recyclers. They collect and sort all of our recyclables including paper, plastics , cans, and organics.
Jake couldn’t wait to share what he built during center time in Kindergarten. He explained to me step by step how he created his dump truck with driver!
Myia and Sharin were working hard on patterning when I came across them. They explained that they had to try to build each of the patterns provided to them by the teacher. They were very proud to show me that they had successfully built every pattern!
Sienna had taken up a large area of the carpet with her pet shop. When I asked her what her favourite part of it was, she replied, “all of it!”
Justin and Evan were intently building when I joined them on the carpet. They showed me the motorcycles they built with lots of wheels. I bet they are fast!
Students in Div.6 have been working on the O.R.E.O. project. Students from around the world have been challenged to stack as high a tower as they can with Oreos. After estimating the height of their tower, students started stacking. The class averaged their results. Students then took apart their Oreos and created sculptures.
Andjelina and Katie have created a cookies and cream flavoured ice cream cone with their Oreos. They had to use every one of their Oreos in their sculpture. The girls enjoyed the project but Katie did not like that her hands got dirty.
Madison and Gina created a selection of insects with their Oreos that included a ladybug, two snails and a caterpillar (under construction). Madison and Gina though the best part of this project was working together and being able to share their ideas.
It’s been a great week! Next week will be a busy one! We have Individual photos on Wednesday, Meet the Teacher from 6-7 on Thursday and our Terry Fox run on Friday.
Have a great weekend everyone!
